Pianist and composer Michelle Grégoire’s music has been described as “ingenious,” “elegant,” “balanced,” and “original with great depth and imagination.” A proud Red River Métis artist, raised in Manitoba (currently residing in Calgary), Grégoire has toured across Canada with her jazz quintet and her music is heard regularly on XM Radio and various jazz programs across North America. An active freelance musician since 1984, she maintains a solid reputation as a leader and supporting musician having recorded her own music, and having worked with several artists from across Canada and beyond. She has been a member of several jazz orchestras such as The Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra, The Prime Time Big Band, The Ninth Avenue Jazz Orchestra, The Calgary Creative Arts Ensemble, and the Calgary Women's Jazz Orchestra. Grégoire holds two jazz degrees from St. Francis Xavier University, and a Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from the Florida State University. She has studied with world-renowned composers such as Maria Schneider, Kenny Wheeler, and Bob Brookmeyer.
