For ten years now, students and alumni of the University of Saskatchewan's jazz program have been writing for large ensemble, and a good deal of that music has landed on our stands. In April we are giving a whole concert to it.
The programme draws on original compositions and inventive big band arrangements written right here in Saskatchewan over the past decade. Expect bold contemporary writing alongside fresh takes on jazz classics, all of it by composers helping to shape where this music goes next.
We will be joined by the Saskatoon Youth Jazz Orchestra, directed by Nick Fanner. The full list of featured composers will be announced closer to the date.
