Live At The Broadway Theatre
Join the SJO for a special live performance of composers Silas Friesen & Paul Suchan's eclectic album for large jazz ensemble, rooted in the big band tradition and influenced by classical, alt rock, and modern jazz music

About This Concert

Building on the success of a Pan-Canadian remote recording project completed during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, composers Silas Friesen and Paul Suchan have combined forces in an eclectic album for large jazz ensemble, rooted in the big band tradition and influenced by classical, alt rock, and modern jazz music. In CloudBurst, the differing compositional styles of Suchan and Friesen both complement each other and create a musical dialectic, leading to a compelling musical narrative that calls for repeated listening-through. To celebrate the launch of this work, the Saskatoon Jazz Orchestra with artistic director Dean McNeill will perform the album live at the Bassment on Saturday, January 13, 2024, with the Footnotes Big Band warming up the stage. Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind convergence of brilliant jazz writing performed by Saskatchewan’s premiere jazz ensemble.
