The jazz tradition has always kept a darker corner. Film noir scores, minor-key standards and the slow build of a classic thriller all live there, and for one night at the end of October we are giving the whole programme over to it. It is how the Saskatoon Jazz Orchestra (SJO) opens Shadows, Lights & New Horizons, our 2026-2027 season.
Ghosts, monsters and the uneasy harmonies of a film score are all fair game. Expect music written for suspense on screen, minor-key standards that have always flirted with the supernatural, and a few big band showstoppers built on the slow climb of a good scare.
Come in costume if you dare, and join us for a night where the line between fear and fun is delightfully blurred.
